5 Tips for Healthy Winter Skin
Posted on August 19 2019
Harsh winter conditions, both indoors and out, can zap moisture from the skin leaving you feeling itchy and dry. Remember, if you experience severely dry skin, please also visit your dermatologist. Here are our top five tips:
#5) Eat well and enjoy lots of water.
According to some, getting enough omega-3 or omega 6 fatty acids through your diet is essential for healthy skin. Also, it's important to drink plenty of water.
#4) Apply your daily sunscreen throughout the winter.
Bear in mind that UV rays can permeate the clouds and cause skin damage.
#3) Modify your regimen
Opt for a richer and/or cream-based cleanser. Use alcohol-based toners and astringents very sparingly. At night, use a rich moisturizer. Also, apply a moisturizing lip balm to help heal dry lips.
#2) Limit shower time and (wait for it) lower the temperature.
However tempting it may be to take a long, steamy shower, opening the pores (with the hot water) will not help to keep moisture in.
#1) Invest in a humidifier.
Run a humidifier in the rooms that you occupy the most, especially your bedroom.
